Well, this is my first-ever blog!
Before now, I never really had the urge to create a blog of my very own, being content to simply browse others' blogs. After all, I really didn't feel that I had anything all that important to say to the world.  It's not that now I suddenly think I do have something incredibly important to share, but I thought this would be a good way to keep friends and loved ones updated on my busy life, and especially my upcoming trip to South Africa! This summer, I will be traveling to Johannesburg, South Africa with Campus Outreach for 6 weeks.  I am joining about 18 other students from colleges and universities throughout North Carolina for something called the Cross Cultural Project, or CCP.  I may post more info about this later, but here is the video from last year's trip if you are interested.

This post has been a long time in the making - I started writing it while in South Africa and just finished it yesterday. I by no means think that I have all the answers when it comes to this area, but I wanted to share what the Lord has been teaching me. Love. I think our culture is absolutely obsessed with love. Everyone wants to find love and will go to extreme measures to do so. People are, by their own admission, “in love with love.” But I’m not convinced that most people even understand what the word itself means. I mean, where do you draw the line between love and simply an extreme like? Google defines “love” as “an intense feeling of deep affection.” But who is to say what warrants an “intense feeling” or “deep affection”? What I consider to be an “intense feeling” may not be the same as yours. Those things are subjective. Update from South Africa!

I apologize in advance for the length of this post. We will likely not have internet again for another week and I am sure many of you would like to know everything we are doing here so I am trying to be as detailed as possible! We made it to South Africa! After a 14-hour and flight and not much sleep, we are here and settled into our house! The Lord was so gracious to us in that there were no complications with our flights, luggage or anything. This was such a blessing thinking about how many things could go wrong when traveling with 20 people. South Africa is actually 6 hours ahead of the U.S., so while it is 11am here as I am writing this, it is only 5am in the States. It's also winter here! Most days warm up to feel like a fall day, but this morning has been the coldest since we've been here. Our first full day  in South Africa was Friday. Dear friends, By now, many of you have heard that I have accepted a teaching position in Uganda for the 2019-2020 school year. I've gotten a LOT of questions about what I'll be doing specifically, so I'm going to do my best to answer them here! What will you be doing?  Meet the Harpers! The Harpers are a missionary family serving in Arua, Uganda (northern part of Uganda, about a nine-hour drive from Uganda's capital). They minister to South Sudanese refugees in Uganda. Because of their close proximity to the South Sudan border in Arua, there are about half a million South Sudanese refugees within a three hour radius of the Harpers' home. Sid and Wendy have eleven kids, but "only" eight that currently live with them in Uganda (the others are college-aged).
